Strategic Expansion and Investment Plans
The Board of Directors approved substantial capital increases aimed at securing future market growth in the cable segment. The total outlay for the ongoing capacity expansion project, which targets Medium Voltage and High Voltage power cable businesses through debottlenecking, was increased from Rs 550 crore to approximately Rs 617 crore. This enlarged scope entails an additional estimated investment of Rs 67.00 crore, proposed to be funded via a combination of long-term debt and internal accrual. The expanded manufacturing capacity is scheduled to be achieved in phases by September 2026 and June 2027.Further cementing its technological lead, the company also planned a technology upgradation for its Extra High Voltage (EHV) cable manufacturing facility at Satna with an estimated investment of approximately Rs 74 crore.
Fibre Optics Joint Venture Set for Triple Capacity Augmentation
In line with its long-term growth trajectory, Universal Cables' joint venture (JV), Birla Furukawa Fibre Optics Private Limited, is set to undergo a massive capacity augmentation. The company approved a proposal to increase the optical fibre production capacity of the JV in phased manner to almost three times the existing capacity. This expansion includes establishing a state-of-the-art upstream 'Preform' manufacturing facility.The joint project carries an estimated aggregate outlay of approximately USD 500 Million, equivalent to roughly Rs 4800 crore. The implementation of this venture is targeted for completion by December 31, 2028. This capacity augmentation will be conducted in technical collaboration with Lightera LLC, USA and Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd., Japan.
Operational Status and Leadership Transition
The company maintains a strong order book, standing at approximately Rs 2860 crore as of July 1, 2026, which includes export orders aggregating to approximately Rs 485 crore. Additionally, an export pipeline of approximately Rs 390 crore is currently under consideration.In matters of corporate governance, the Board noted the resignation of Mr Gopal Agarwal from the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Key Managerial Personnel, effective September 30, 2026. In succession, the Board approved the appointment of Shri Nishant P. Saigal as CFO and KMP, effective October 21, 2026, following recommendations from the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and Audit Committee.
