New Education Infrastructure Announced in Budget Speech​

The Government will establish five university townships in the vicinity of major industrial logistics centres, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced while presenting the Union Budget 2026-27 in the Lok Sabha on Sunday.

The announcement is aimed at strengthening the link between higher education and industrial ecosystems by placing academic institutions closer to key logistics and manufacturing zones.

One Girls’ Hostel Planned in Every District​

As part of the education and social infrastructure push, the Finance Minister also announced the setting up of one girls’ hostel in every district across the country. India has more than 700 districts, making the initiative nationwide in scope.

Support for Creative Technology Education​

The Budget also proposes support for the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies, Mumbai to establish content labs in 15,000 secondary schools. The initiative is intended to strengthen exposure to creative technologies at the school level through dedicated infrastructure.

These announcements formed part of the Union Budget 2026-27 presented in Parliament today, outlining the Government’s focus on education, skill development, and inclusive infrastructure expansion.
