'Tough Times Never Last': Mukesh Ambani Urges National Mission in AI and Energy Self-Reliance at Reliance AGM 2026​

On Friday, Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani delivered a powerful message at the company's Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2026. Amid growing global uncertainties, Ambani strongly emphasized the necessity of accelerating India’s journey toward self-reliance across critical sectors. He stated that energy independence and technological self-sufficiency must become national missions to secure the nation's future development.

Ambani addressed the volatility of recent years, noting that the last six years have been among the most uncertain periods witnessed globally in several decades. These challenging times included geopolitical conflicts, supply chain shocks, pandemic aftermath, and economic turbulence. He stressed that India has demonstrated competence and resilience in navigating these global disruptions.

The Imperative for Atmanirbharta​

Citing recent international conflicts, Ambani declared that the most vital lesson for India is the intensification of its self-reliance efforts. He reiterated that reducing dependence on external sources in strategic sectors remains a paramount national priority.

"Tough times never last, tough nations do," Ambani asserted during his address. He firmly stated that maximum energy self-sufficiency should be adopted as a core national mission. Furthermore, he underscored the need for AI self-sufficiency to become an equally critical national endeavor.

Building India's Technological Future​

Ambani made it clear that building domestic capabilities in technology is vital for long-term growth and national security. He challenged the notion of passive technological consumption, stating, "India should not be a mere consumer of AI created elsewhere."

The Chairman instead declared that "India must become a creator, adopter and global leader in AI." Reliance Intelligence has been announced as the group's newest engine for growth. The company aims to establish a comprehensive profitable infrastructure, platform, and services business within the AI domain.

Jio Platforms and the Public Listing Milestone​

In a separate but significant update regarding the telecom giant, Ambani confirmed major developments concerning Jio Platforms. The board of Jio Platforms approved its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) on Friday. This approval marks a key milestone as the DRHP is set to be filed with SEBI today, signaling progress towards its public listing.

Jio’s role in strengthening India's digital economy was highlighted throughout the AGM. The company made voice services free and ensured high-speed data remained affordable for millions of Indians. Jio played a pivotal part in transforming India into the world's largest data consumption market.

Reliance Commitment to Employment and Growth​

Beyond technological vision, Ambani addressed the group's commitment to employment generation in India. He highlighted that Reliance remains among the largest employers within the country. The corporation continues to create an increasing volume of high-paying direct and indirect job opportunities annually.
