Tata Steel Limited has divested its entire equity stake in Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited (JFSPL), transferring ownership to Churchill Brothers Sports Club Private Limited, commonly known as Churchill Brothers FC. The transaction marks a significant transition for the football entity, ensuring continuity for the players and coaching staff previously associated with Tata Steel.

The Committee of Directors of Tata Steel Limited approved the transfer on August 14, 2026. Under the terms of the Share Purchase Agreement signed by both parties, Tata Steel ceded its complete 100% stake in JFSPL to Churchill. The shares comprise 4,08,00,000 equity shares with a face value of ₹10/- each, purchased for a nominal consideration of ₹100/-.

The completion of the sale is scheduled by August 31, 2026, provided certain conditions precedent are met, including obtaining necessary approvals from the All-India Football Federation and fulfilling other customary agreements between Tata Steel and Churchill Brothers.

Churchill Brothers Sports Club Private Limited has taken over JFSPL, a club that possesses nearly four decades of footballing legacy in Goa. The buyer is not related to the Promoter/Promoter Group of Tata Steel Limited. This transfer was noted as a non-related party transaction.

Operational Impact and Commitment to Grassroots Football​

The transfer includes the ISL sporting license of JFSPL, along with a contingent handover involving 12 players and 2 coaches. Churchill Brothers FC is set to take over all contracts related to these personnel starting September 2026, offering them an opportunity to continue their professional football careers in the Indian Super League.

D. B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Corporate Services at Tata Steel, stated that they are pleased that the agreement allows their players and coaches to pursue continuous club football. While Tata Steel steps away from the senior team, the company remains committed to grassroots and youth football through its established infrastructure.

The Tata Football Academy (TFA), founded in 1987 at Jamshedpur, has trained over 300 cadets, including 150 who have represented India. The TFA, along with other sports academies operated by the company in disciplines such as archery, hockey, sport climbing, and rowing, continues to nurture talent and uphold its commitment to providing opportunities across various communities.
