Solar Giant Avaada Electro Files UDRHP: IPO Set to Fund Massive Expansion in PV Market

Solar cell and panel maker Avaada Electro has filed its updated Draft Red Herring Prospectus (UDRHP) with SEBI, signaling a major capital raise through an initial public offering (IPO). The company plans to raise up to ₹7,600 crore to finance substantial capacity expansion and service existing debt obligations.

The IPO structure includes raising ₹1,600 crore through a fresh issue of shares. Complementing this, the promoter, Avaada Ventures, proposes selling up to ₹6,000 crore through an offer for sale (OFS), according to the UDRHP filed on August 25. The company also may explore a pre-IPO placement of up to ₹320 crore, which would be part of the fresh issue size if realized.

Operational Strength and Vertical Integration

Avaada Electro is positioned among India's top 10 vertically integrated solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturers. Currently, the firm holds 8.50 GW of operational solar module manufacturing capacity. Additionally, it possesses 3.00 GW of operational tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) solar cell manufacturing capacity.

The company is actively constructing facilities in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, earmarked for commissioning by fiscal 2028. This includes a planned 5.10 GW of solar module capacity and 6.00 GW of solar cell capacity.

Commitment to Advanced TOPCon Technology

Global industry trends show developers increasingly adopting TOPCon technology due to its superior efficiency and performance compared to older methods like PERC. The CRISIL Report notes that while traditional PERC technology achieves an efficiency of between 23.2 percent and 23.7 percent, TOPCon can deliver solar cells with efficiencies reaching up to 26 percent.

Avaada Electro confirmed its commitment to this advanced technology. The company stated that its upcoming manufacturing lines will be entirely based on N-type TOPCon technology to ensure higher reliability and increased power density.

Future Expansion Targets and Financial Health

Looking ahead, Avaada Electro aims for ambitious growth by fiscal 2028. The company plans to double its solar module manufacturing capacity to 13.60 GW. Furthermore, it targets a solar cell capacity of 12.00 GW and an ingot and wafer capacity of 3.00 GW.

The IPO proceeds are crucial for financial stability and growth. Avaada Electro intends to utilize ₹1,200 crore of the net fresh issue proceeds specifically to repay debt, addressing outstanding borrowings totaling ₹3,926.4 crore as of June 2026. The balance of the funds will be allocated toward general corporate purposes.

Strong Financial Performance and Peer Comparison

Avaada Electro reported a robust financial performance in the fiscal year ending March 2026. The company's profit surged nearly five-fold, reaching ₹888.7 crore from ₹173.3 crore in the preceding year. Revenue also experienced massive growth, surging nearly six-fold to ₹5,303.5 crore against previous FY figures of ₹911.6 crore.

The company competes against established peers including Premier Energies, Waaree Energies, Vikram Solar, Websol Energy Systems, and Emmvee Photovoltaic Power. The Avaada Electro IPO has been appointed with several major financial institutions, including ICICI Securities, Axis Capital, BofA Securities India, HSBC Securities, SBI Capital Markets, and IIFL Capital Services.
