SJVN Appoints Experienced Civil Engineer as Director (Projects)​

SJVN Limited has appointed Shri Rajesh Kumar Chandel as a Director (Projects) on its Board, effective June 11, 2026. The appointment brings extensive technical, managerial, and leadership experience in large-scale hydroelectric project development to the company.

Shri Chandel is a Civil Engineer with over 32 years of service in the power sector. He joined SJVN Limited in May 1994. Throughout his distinguished career, he has been involved in the planning, construction, project management, and monitoring of various hydroelectric projects across India, Nepal, and Bhutan.

His early contributions at SJVN included working on the Head Race Tunnel of the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station. He also held key positions within SJVN's Corporate Headquarters, including assignments in Corporate Monitoring & Coordination, Corporate Facility Management, and as an Engineering Officer to the Director (Civil).

Shri Chandel played a vital role in two major international hydropower projects for SJVN. These included the 900 MW Arun-3 Hydroelectric Project in Nepal and the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan, where he was instrumental in securing statutory clearances and advancing project development activities.

His leadership experience includes serving as the Head of Project for the Dhaulasidh Hydro Electric Project (HEP), successfully steering the initiative from conceptualization through to the construction phase. Shri Chandel also held the role of Managing Director at the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu-II Hydroelectric Project Authority (PHPA-II) in Bhutan, where he was responsible for project commissioning and managing technical, contractual, and coordination matters.

Prior to taking on the directorship, Shri Chandel served as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chairman & Managing Director of SJVN Limited. His previous executive roles included Chief Executive Officer of SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company (SAPDC) and SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company (SLPDC) in Nepal, overseeing the implementation and development of SJVN's hydropower projects in the country.

With his comprehensive background in project planning, construction management, and execution across major hydroelectric initiatives, Shri Chandel adds deep technical and managerial expertise to the board of SJVN Limited.

Shares of SJVN Limited are edging higher to ₹72.36 as of 2:51 PM today, driven by a gain of ₹2.04 or 2.90%. The stock is trading within the day's range, which spans from a low of ₹71.10 to a high of ₹72.45, with over 1.37 million shares traded in this session.
