Sharp Rebound! Sensex Surges Over 600 Points as Investors Scavenge Bargains Amid Market Weakness

The market sentiment shifted dramatically on Friday after benchmark indices, heavily pressured by early losses, found unexpected buyers at lower levels. Both the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty recovered significantly from their intraday lows, signaling a floor beneath the declining trends. This recovery comes as both major indicators are heading toward a fifth consecutive day of declines.

##Investors Buy Dips As Indices Headed for Fifth Straight Loss Day

The 30-share BSE Sensex had initially dropped by 916.96 points, or 1.2 per cent, settling at 75,474.43 in early trading. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty saw a sharp decline of 263.3 points, or 1.1 per cent, reaching an intraday low of 23,606.30.

However, investor interest quickly returned to the market, enabling a sharp reversal. By around 1:15 pm, the Sensex had climbed back more than 600 points from its lowest point. The Nifty also gained ground, pushing past the crucial 23,800 mark.

##Rupee Rally Offers A Crucial Stabilizing Support

The domestic currency provided a significant tailwind to equity markets as it recovered sharply in the foreign exchange market. The rupee appreciated 22 paise, trading at 96.51 against the US dollar. This support was attributed partly to potential intervention by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

A weaker US dollar also aided the domestic currency’s appreciation. Despite this support, the outlook for the rupee remains tempered due to continued Foreign Institutional Investor (FII) outflows and persistent weakness in domestic equities. The interbank rate showed a strong recovery after opening at 96.81.

##Banking Stocks Lead Recovery Amid Intraday Lows

The Bank Nifty index demonstrated resilience, bouncing back strongly from its initial plunge during the session. Initially dipping to an intraday low of 56,023.60, the Bank Nifty managed a healthy rebound. It settled at 56,772.55, marking a recovery of approximately 750 points throughout the trading session.

##Nifty Finds Support Near Key Technical Levels

The Nifty index tested and found essential support near the 23,600 level after hitting its intraday low. This technical floor helped prevent further losses in the benchmark index. Ajit Mishra, SVP at Religare Broking Ltd., pointed out that the Nifty retested the lower band of its prevailing consolidation range (23,800-24,400).

Mishra added that a decisive breach below this support could potentially trigger further declines toward the 23,600 zone, which aligns with rising trendline support.
