New Delhi, March 23 Raymond Group Chairman Gautam Hari Singhania is recovering from injuries sustained in a speedboat accident in the Maldives last week and is supporting the ongoing search operations, his spokesperson said on Monday.
Singhania is among seven people who were involved in a speedboat accident in the Maldives on Friday. He was rescued and returned to Mumbai.
According to reports, two Indian men – former national rally champion Hari Singh and Arjuna awardee Cdr Mahesh Ramachandran – have been missing, and search operations are underway.
"Gautam Singhania continues to recover under proper care and is closely monitoring and supporting the ongoing search operations. We continue to pray for and support the friends and families of those affected," the spokesperson said.
While there has been no official update on the outcome of the search operations, social media is abuzz with speculation about the possible death of the missing persons, while blaming Singhania for the accident.
"There are speculations being spread on social media regarding a serious speedboat accident involving a mechanical failure. It is disconcerting to note the irresponsible nature of the comments circulating, with a total disregard for the facts," the spokesperson said.
Singhania was among the seven people on the speedboat, including two women from the UK and Russia, and five men from India. Singhania had suffered minor injuries and was back in Mumbai for recovery.
