RBI Launches Rural Consumer Confidence Survey to Gauge One-Year Economic Outlook for 31 States

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has initiated the July 2026 round of the crucial Rural Consumer Confidence Survey (RCCS). This regular exercise is designed to gather granular data on the economic health and future expectations of rural and semi-urban households across major parts of India. The results generated from this comprehensive study are vital inputs that will guide subsequent monetary policy decisions.

Understanding the Scope of the RCCS

The RCCS is meticulously structured to collect current perceptions as well as projections for one year ahead. These surveys cover critical economic indicators, including the general economic situation and employment scenario. Additionally, households provide input on their overall price situation, self-reported income levels, and spending habits.

Target States and Survey Methodology

The survey targets rural and semi-urban communities residing in 31 states or Union Territories. The extensive list of covered regions includes Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and many others, ensuring wide geographical coverage.

Ipsos Research Private Ltd., based in Gurugram, has been commissioned to conduct this round on behalf of the Reserve Bank of India. The agency is responsible for approaching selected households to obtain their responses. This focused approach ensures data quality relevant to macroeconomic policy planning.

How Households Can Participate

While Ipsos Research is undertaking the survey through targeted engagement with specific households, there remains an avenue for wider public participation. Individuals who have not been approached by the research agency are welcome to participate in this survey. Participants can submit their responses using a linked survey schedule provided by the RBI.

Completed survey schedules may be submitted via email to the specified contact details. For any queries or clarifications regarding the process, participants are advised to contact The Director of the Division of Household Surveys at the Reserve Bank of India office located in Bandra (East), Mumbai.
