RBI Launches Crucial 2025-26 Survey to Gauge ITES and Software Export Health
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has commenced the annual data collection cycle by launching its survey on Computer Software and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) Exports for the period 2025-26. This critical exercise mandates data submissions from all entities engaged in IT export services. The aggregated findings derived from this survey will be disseminated in the public domain. Furthermore, the data will be instrumental in compiling India's comprehensive external sector statistics.Scope and Significance of the ITES Export Data
The survey is designed to collect detailed information across multiple facets of India’s digital economy. It covers exports of computer services, information technology enabled services (ITES), and business process outsourcing (BPO) services. By tracking these key segments, the RBI gains a robust picture of the country's service-based export performance. This monitoring mechanism is crucial for financial stability and economic planning. The resulting data helps regulators understand the trends, volumes, and composition of India's valuable IT export market.
Mandatory Submission Guidelines for 2025-26
All entities that export software and ITES/BPO services are required to complete the survey schedule for the 2025-26 round. The RBI has also updated the format of the ITES survey schedule for the current round. The submission deadline for the survey response has been strictly set for July 15, 2026. Reporting entities are strongly advised to utilize the provided resources to ensure timely submission.
Transition to Centralized Online Submission Platform
This survey round is being conducted through the Centralised Information Management System (CIMS) survey module. This transition enables web-based submission, which includes built-in data consistency checks for quality assurance. A major benefit is the facility of automated email acknowledgement upon successful submission. While the CIMS portal is the primary method, an existing parallel facility allowing for the submission of excel-based responses through the SMS system is also available. However, the RBI has announced that the existing excel-based reporting system will be decommissioned from the subsequent survey rounds.
Utilizing the New CIMS Portal for Responses
To ensure smooth compliance, reporting entities must be aware of the multiple submission channels. Responses can be submitted via email to surveysoftex@rbi.org.in. Alternatively, entities can log in directly to the CIMS portal using the link received at no-reply-cims@rbi.org.in.A self-registration link (URL: https://10.28.3.44/LOGIN/#/login?responders=[Click: New Registration]) is also provided, allowing respondents to create credentials and submit the response through the online web-based form. The instructions for participation are provided in FAQs, and queries can be addressed via itesquery@rbi.org.in.
