The operational landscape during Q1 FY27 was highly volatile, affected by severe headwinds in the travel and foreign exchange sectors. These challenges include geopolitical developments in the Middle East, higher aviation fuel prices, and airspace disruptions. Industry reports noted that international passenger traffic experienced an 18% year-on-year decline due to route operational disruptions.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) also observed a moderation in travel-related outward remittances under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS). Travel remittances decreased from US$1.271 billion in April 2025 to US$1.160 billion in April 2026, representing an 8.7% year-on-year decline. In May 2026, travel remittances were at US$1.280 billion, down from US$1.380 billion in May 2025, a 7.2% decline. Despite these temporary downturns, international travel remains the largest category under the LRS, indicating sustained structural demand for foreign exchange services.
