Hyderabad, January 9, 2026: Power Mech Projects Limited (POWERMECH) has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, PM Green Private Limited, has secured a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project from West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited, marking the company’s formal entry into the energy storage segment.

The contract involves the establishment of a 250 MW / 1,000 MWh BESS facility at the Goaltore Substation in Paschim Midnapore, West Bengal. The project carries a base revenue potential of Rs 1,563 crore, with an additional greenshoe option for another 250 MW / 1,000 MWh, taking the total revenue opportunity to Rs 3,126 crore.

Project Scope and Structure

The BESS project has been structured under a Build, Own, Operate (BOO) model, with a full offtake commitment for the entire contracted capacity. PM Green will be responsible for the end-to-end execution, including design, financing, engineering, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance of the facility.

The construction period for the project is estimated at 18 months from the signing of the energy storage purchase agreement, while the operational contract spans 15 years, with a provision for extension of up to five additional years from the scheduled commissioning date.

Under the expansion option, an additional BESS facility of similar capacity is proposed at the Durgapur Project Limited campus in Durgapur, further strengthening Power Mech’s footprint in grid-scale energy storage infrastructure.

Strategic Significance

The project represents a key milestone in Power Mech Projects’ renewable and clean energy strategy, positioning the group to address grid-balancing and peak-shaving requirements as renewable energy penetration continues to rise in India’s power mix.

Commenting on the development, Sajja Kishore Babu, Chairman and Managing Director, said that as renewable energy crosses a significant share of installed capacity, advanced storage solutions are critical to ensure grid reliability. He added that the BESS project is not just a commercial win, but a foundational step in the company’s long-term vision to support a stable and reliable green energy ecosystem.

He further noted that while PM Green is a new platform focused on clean energy solutions, it leverages the execution capabilities and engineering experience built by Power Mech Projects over decades, with the scale of this debut project underscoring the group’s ability to deliver complex infrastructure assignments.
