PM-KISAN 22nd Installment: ₹18,640 Crore Disbursed to Over 9.32 Crore Farmers

Women Farmers Account for Over 2.15 Crore Beneficiaries

New Delhi, March 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released more than ₹18,640 crore under the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, benefiting over 9.32 crore farmers across the country. Among the recipients, 2.15 crore are women farmers, reflecting the scheme’s expanding outreach.

Total Disbursement Crosses ₹4.27 Lakh Crore

According to an official factsheet released on Thursday, the cumulative disbursement under PM-KISAN has now surpassed ₹4.27 lakh crore since its launch. This positions the scheme as one of the largest direct benefit transfer initiatives globally.

The scheme operates through Aadhaar-based authentication and digitized land records, ensuring that financial assistance is transferred directly to verified beneficiaries in a transparent and efficient manner.

Budget Allocation Signals Continued Focus on Farmers

The Union Budget for 2026-27 has allocated ₹60,000 crore to the PM-KISAN scheme, underscoring continued policy focus on strengthening farmers’ income security. The initiative is aligned with the broader objective of ensuring “Annadata Samman,” or farmer dignity and financial stability.

Impact Studies Highlight Income and Credit Benefits

Impact assessments conducted by the International Food Policy Research Institute and NITI Aayog indicate that beneficiary farmers have reported improved agricultural income and reduced dependence on informal credit sources.

Across different regions, farmers have utilized the financial support to invest in their fields, contributing to enhanced productivity and sustainability.

Farmers Share Ground-Level Benefits

Bhamini, a farmer from Edakkara in Kerala, highlighted that timely financial assistance under PM-KISAN encourages better farming practices and supports productivity improvements. She noted that the Direct Benefit Transfer system ensures seamless and timely access to funds.

In the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, farmer Anil Haldar from Durgapur used the assistance received in August 2025 to begin watermelon cultivation. The funds helped him purchase essential inputs and diversify his agricultural activities.

Similarly, Deepak Singh Negi from Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir has been using the scheme’s support to procure seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. These investments have contributed to improved crop quality and yield.

Scheme Overview

Launched in 2019, PM-KISAN is a centrally sponsored scheme designed to provide assured income support to landholding farmer families with cultivable land. Each eligible family receives ₹6,000 annually, disbursed in three equal installments of ₹2,000 through the Direct Benefit Transfer mechanism into Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts.
