Petrobras Signs FPSO Contract for BM-SEAL-11 Consortium in Brazil

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is involved in a major energy development in Brazil following the signing of a contract for a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit.

On May 29, 2026, Petrobras, acting as the Operator of the BM-SEAL-11 Consortium, signed the contract with SBM Offshore. This contract pertains to the SEAP-I Project, which encompasses the development of oil and gas discovered in the BM-SEAL-11 and BM-SEAL-10 Concessions in Brazil.

BPCL’s involvement in the project structure is significant. BPCL, through its wholly owned subsidiary BPRL and subsequent subsidiaries, holds a 65.4% stake in IBV Brasil Petroleo LTDA (IBV). IBV, in turn, holds a 40% participating interest in the BM Seal 11 concession. Petrobras is serving as the operator and holds the remaining 60% participating interest.

Project Structure and Capacity

The FPSO contract is structured under a Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) model. Under this arrangement, SBM Offshore will be responsible for designing, building, and undertaking the operation of the FPSO for an initial period of 6.5 years, through a separate operation and maintenance contract.

The developed FPSO unit boasts substantial capacity, capable of processing 120 thousand barrels of oil/condensate per day and 10 million cubic meters of gas per day.

Investment Potential

This project holds the potential to provide access to equity oil for IBV concerning its share, thereby helping strengthen the energy security of the country. IBV's total expected investment in the project is estimated at ~ USD 2.8 Bn, subject to Government of India approvals.

BPCL Stock Price Movement

On Monday, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited shares slipped by 0.54% to close at ₹296.85. The stock traded with a volume of 7.74 million shares, reflecting the day's modest decline from its prior session's close.
