Persistent Systems Collaborates with Databricks and MSOE to Strengthen Enterprise AI Talent Pipeline

Persistent Systems, a leader in Digital Engineering and Enterprise Modernization, has partnered with Databricks and the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) on an initiative designed to cultivate the next generation of enterprise-ready AI talent. This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between academic learning in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its real-world implementation within industry settings.

The program anchored a Databricks-powered AI Hackathon, conducted in collaboration with the MSOE AI Club. The event provided students with intensive, hands-on exposure to advanced data and AI engineering environments, leveraging the Databricks Data Intelligence Platform and the support of the Databricks University Alliance.

The initiative emphasizes operational maturity, governance, reliability, and engineering discipline in AI development. Participants gained practical experience working across the entire AI lifecycle using technologies such as Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Agent Bricks, and Databricks Workflows. By working alongside Persistent's senior architects and project leads, participants learned about incorporating architectural thinking, governance frameworks, and enterprise deployment considerations into AI systems.

This joint effort reinforces Persistent’s deep engagement with MSOE, a leading institution in applied AI and engineering education. As part of Persistent’s broader partnership with Databricks, the company leverages its strong capabilities as a Global Systems Integrator partner, supporting enterprises across data foundation modernization, analytics scaling, Generative AI adoption, and enterprise AI deployment. Persistent boasts over 1,300 Databricks experts and offers proprietary accelerators like the iAURA suite.

The collaboration establishes a model that merges enterprise platforms, academic innovation, and practitioner expertise to accelerate workforce readiness for an AI-driven economy.

Industry Perspectives on the Initiative

Sameer Dixit, Corporate Vice President and Head of Data, AI and Integration at Persistent, noted that "The AI market is shifting from isolated pilots to enterprise-wide operationalization, demanding engineers fluent in governed data, scalable platforms and production-grade execution." He added that this Hackathon equips students with real-world platform experience and engineering discipline.

John Young, Global Managing Director -Partner Solution Architects at Databricks, highlighted the importance of foundational work, stating, "AI is only as powerful as the data foundations behind it. Preparing talent to work in these unified environments is becoming critical."

Derek Riley, PhD, Professor and Program Director of Computer Science at MSOE, shared his perspective on the transformative impact of the event. He said that "The support from Persistent and Databricks has been transformative for the MSOE AI Club," challenging students to think beyond academic lessons.
