NESTS Partners with LLF to Supercharge Tribal Education; 443 EMRSs Set for Tech-driven Transformation

Renewed Partnership Fuels Digital Divide Bridging Mission in India

The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), operating under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, has solidified a crucial partnership aimed at vastly improving technology education for tribal students. NESTS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Learning Links Foundation (LLF) to implement the Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) programme nationwide.

This collaboration marks a significant stride in utilizing corporate philanthropy to strengthen digital and technological literacy among India's tribal youth. The renewed MoU is set to be effective from 1st April 2026 to 31st March 2028, building upon previous successful engagements.

Expanding AFE Reach: Targeting Over Two Lakh Students

The partnership aims for substantial scale, expanding the programme to cover 443 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs). The initiative is projected to impact over two lakh students, spanning Classes VI to IX across these schools.

Prior to this expansion, the NESTS-LLF collaboration has already impacted approximately 80,000 students from Class VI to IX since 2022. This sustained effort underscores the commitment to promoting inclusive education and enhancing computational skills in tribal communities.

Core Components of the Amazon Future Engineer Programme

The AFE programme is structured around building holistic technical awareness rather than mere curriculum delivery. It encompasses three key components designed to prepare students for future technological roles.

Computer Science Fundamentals introduces critical concepts like coding, problem-solving, and computational thinking. AI Literacy focuses on experiential and project-based learning to build a strong awareness of Artificial Intelligence concepts. Career Exposure provides vital insights into technology-driven career paths through virtual industry exposure.

Infrastructure Boost: Digital Devices Provided in Underserved Schools

Beyond curriculum integration, the collaboration is heavily invested in fortifying digital infrastructure within EMRSs. This commitment ensures that education remains inclusive and technologically accessible regardless of a school's resources.

During Academic Year (AY) 2024-25, over 284 refurbished laptops were supplied to teachers across various EMRSs. Building upon this momentum for AY 2026-27, more than 900 digital devices are set to be provided to 238 participating schools.

Roles and Responsibilities in the Educational Ecosystem

The success of the AFE programme relies on specialized roles assigned to both NESTS and LLF. Learning Links Foundation (LLF) is tasked with crucial support systems for implementation.

LLF will furnish academic support, provide necessary teacher training, and conduct mentoring through qualified resource persons. Continuous monitoring and feedback mechanisms are also part of LLF's commitment to ensuring effective rollout.

NESTS, in turn, ensures the active nomination and participation of EMRS teachers in the capacity-building programmes. By coordinating closely with EMRS staff, NESTS supports the smooth and efficient execution of the AFE curriculum.

Commitment to Future Readiness and Digital Literacy

This strategic partnership clearly reflects a robust governmental commitment to bridging the digital divide. The initiative is designed to significantly enhance the digital literacy and computational thinking skills of tribal students.

The programme enables these students to gain enhanced career readiness, allowing them to actively explore opportunities within emerging technology sectors. This move strengthens India's commitment to promoting inclusive education across all demographics.
