Of this figure, Rs 13.65 crore constitutes the share contributed by the Government of India.The GREAT scheme provides maximum financial support of up to Rs 50 Lakh per approved start-up. The startups supported under the GREAT initiative are concentrated across six key technical textiles segments: Indutech (11), Meditech (9), Protech (7), Oekotech (2), Buildtech (1), and Sportech (1). Startups are tackling complex challenges through innovations such as hemp-bioplastic composites and biodegradable tire yarns.Medical sector focus areas include antimicrobial textile technologies and surgical simulators. The commitment to addressing modern material science needs is evident in the support provided for various high-performance composites intended for automotive, construction, and defence applications.
Geographic Reach and Monitoring Framework
The initiative boasts a wide national footprint, with start-ups distributed across multiple states. State-wise distribution data highlights strong representation in technical textile innovation. Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra lead in Meditech (4 and 2 respectively), while Delhi is a key hub for both Indutech and Meditech ventures.Incubators are mandated to play a critical advisory role, providing intensive business mentoring, legal support, intellectual property guidance, and networking assistance. A dedicated Review and Monitoring Committee oversees project progress, assessing success based on prototype development, market launch potential, industry adoption, job creation, and turnover.
