Massive Capital Inflow Drives SEBI Report: India's Equity Market Overtakes Key Peers Amid Global Tech-Energy Tug-of-War
Primary Market Funding Sees Near 92 Percent Surge
The total fund mobilization across equity, debt, and business trust segments surged to ₹1,38,548 crore in June 2026. This figure represents a substantial 92 per cent increase from the ₹72,075 crore raised in May 2026, reflecting a renewed corporate appetite for capital expansion. The debt segment remained dominant in resource mobilization, accounting for 74 per cent of total funds at ₹1,02,508 crore. Equity issues contributed ₹34,040 crore, further bolstered by a mobilization of ₹2,000 crore through InvITs. Private placement avenues were the primary driver of equity funding, with eight Qualified Issue Placements (QIPs) and 119 preferential allotments raising a total of ₹31,196 crore in Equity issues.
A notable positive trend was observed in the SME segment, where strong momentum saw 12 out of 19 IPOs list at or above their issue price. The aggregate listing day value for SMEs reached ₹950 crore, marking a 13 per cent appreciation over their total issue size.
Stock Markets Show Resilience; Sectoral Performance Remains Mixed
Indian equity benchmarks posted modest gains in June 2026, driven by robust Domestic Institutional Investor (DII) flows and softening crude oil prices. The Sensex rose by 2.3 per cent, while the Nifty 50 index gained 1.4 per cent month-on-month.Sectoral performance across both BSE and NSE was highly divergent in June. Banking, Realty, and Media sectors led the gains, with NIFTY Bank rising 6.1 per cent and NIFTY Realty surging 6.0 per cent. Conversely, market participants saw sharp declines in IT (9.6 per cent) and Metal (6.9 per cent), indicating persistent pressure in these critical areas.
The average daily turnover (ADT) in the equity cash segment decreased by 7 per cent month-on-month to ₹1.4 lakh crore. Despite this moderation, the segment still registered a robust 17 per cent year-on-year growth compared to June 2025, sustained primarily by strong domestic buying interest.
FPI Shift: Equity Outflows Balanced by Record Debt Inflows
Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) were net sellers in Indian equities during June 2026, pulling out ₹49,340 crore. This represented a moderation from the aggressive sell-off seen early in the month. However, FPI activity saw strategic allocation into debt securities, where they invested a record net amount of ₹55,518 crore. Tax exemptions for investments in FAR eligible government securities and the expansion of the FAR framework were cited as major catalysts for this high volume of debt inflows.
Crucially, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) acted as a strong counterbalancing force during the month, recording monthly net inflows of ₹85,936 crore into the equity segment.
Global Economy Navigates Tech Boom and Geopolitical Shock
The global economy is currently characterized by a tense balancing act between negative supply shocks originating from Middle Eastern conflict and immense positive acceleration driven by technology and artificial intelligence (AI). The IMF projects that global output will slow to 3.0 per cent in 2026 due to these pressures.Geopolitical disruptions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz are projected by the IMF to trigger a massive surge in crude oil prices, estimating a 32 per cent rise and an average of $89 a barrel. This energy spike has caused global headline inflation expectations to climb from 4.1 per cent to 4.7 per cent in 2026, officially stalling the global disinflation trend.
In contrast, the primary market activity globally was concentrated in Technology/Hardware sectors, specifically AI and Semiconductors. Global IPO proceeds tripled to USD 186.8 billion in the first half of 2026, with Western markets leading total capital raised despite a 12 per cent drop in listing volume.
SEBI Introduces Key Regulatory Changes for Market Strengthening

These policy developments spanned the derivatives, corporate, and investor protection domains. The trading framework for Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) was significantly revised.
