Maruti Suzuki Reaches One Million Annual Capacity at Hansalpur Facility with Plant D Commencement

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has marked a significant operational milestone, successfully commencing commercial production at the fourth plant (Plant D) of its manufacturing facility in Hansalpur, Gujarat. This development enhances the total annual production capacity of the Hansalpur unit to one million units, establishing it as India's largest passenger vehicle manufacturing site at a single location.

The addition of Plant D, which boasts an annual capacity of 250,000 units, raised the Hansalpur facility’s capacity from 750,000 units to one million units per annum. This accomplishment places Maruti Suzuki among the first globally to achieve a single manufacturing site with a total annual production capacity of one million vehicles.

The commencement of operations at Plant D is designed to meet growing demand both domestically and internationally. The new plant will initially focus on producing the Company's flagship Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara.

With the completion of Plant D, Maruti Suzuki’s total annual manufacturing capacity stands at 2.9 million units across all its Indian facilities. The cumulative investment in the Hansalpur facility amounts to INR 252,887 million (INR 25,288.7 crore). This includes an estimated investment of INR 39,000 million (INR 3,900 crore) designated for Plant D.

Management Perspective and Growth Ambitions

Speaking on the expansion, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, highlighted Gujarat’s role as a manufacturing and export hub for the company. He noted that reaching one million vehicles annually at the Hansalpur facility further strengthens Maruti Suzuki's ability to meet customer demand both in India and internationally, advancing its 'Make in India, Make for the World' vision.

Mr. Takeuchi also stated that the Hansalpur plant and the forthcoming Sanand facility will be crucial in achieving the long-term goal of producing 4 million units annually in India, thereby contributing to strengthening India’s manufacturing competitiveness and boosting exports.

Sustainable Practices and Community Engagement

Maruti Suzuki has also emphasized sustainable logistics through its commitment to green initiatives. The Company commissioned India's first automobile in-plant railway siding at the Hansalpur facility in March 2024, aligning with the Prime Minister's GatiShakti programme. Furthermore, the Gujarat in-plant railway siding was recognized in February 2026 as the World’s First Modal Shift Transportation Project registered under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) program.

In terms of social responsibility, Maruti Suzuki runs several initiatives near its manufacturing sites. The company established a multi-specialty hospital in Sitapur in 2021 and set up a CBSE English medium school in partnership with Podar Education Network in the same region. To strengthen local talent pools, Maruti Suzuki has established two Japan-India Institutes for Manufacturing (JIMs) in Mehsana and Gandhinagar, training over 1,200 students.
