Temasek-backed Manipal Health Enterprises has successfully raised ₹4,167.09 crore from anchor investors, signaling strong institutional confidence ahead of its massive upcoming Initial Public Offering (IPO). The parent company of the renowned hospital chain, Manipal Hospitals, secured this significant funding on July 28, just one day before the public subscription of its Rs 9,275-crore IPO begins.The successful anchor placement highlights the growing institutional interest in the healthcare sector and the robustness of the company's financial structure. This infusion comes as the company prepares to take a major step toward listing on the stock exchanges.
Anchor Book Attracts Global Giants and Domestic Mutual Funds
A total of 133 anchor investors participated in the deal, subscribing to 7.06 crore equity shares at the upper end of the price band. This wide appeal underscores the stature of Manipal Health Enterprises (MHE).Marquee global financial players featured prominently among the committed investors. These include Fidelity, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Franklin Templeton, and Allianz Global Investors Fund. Additionally, Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and Government Pension Fund Global were noted as key participants.
Domestically, numerous mutual funds secured a stake in the anchor allocation. Twenty-one domestic mutual funds received shares, including ICICI Prudential AMC, Kotak Mahindra AMC, Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC, and Mirae Asset. Insurance companies like SBI Life, HDFC Life, and Bajaj Life also actively participated in securing their allotment.
IPO Structure and Financial Utilization Plans
The upcoming Rs 9,275-crore IPO is scheduled to open on July 29 and close on July 31. The issue structure comprises a fresh equity issue totaling ₹8,000 crore, along with an offer-for-sale (OFS) of 2.16 crore shares worth ₹1,275.2 crore from promoters and other investors.The price band for the IPO has been set between Rs 560 and Rs 590 per share. This strategic capital raising is being used primarily to strengthen the balance sheet and execute key corporate actions related to its subsidiaries.
Debt Reduction and Strategic Acquisitions Planned with Funds
MHE plans a significant part of the fresh issue proceeds toward debt reduction. The company intends to utilize ₹5,552.7 crore from the net IPO proceeds for this purpose, given that its consolidated outstanding borrowings stood at Rs 11,185 crore as of May 2026.The funds will also support a strategic acquisition move. MHE plans to use ₹574 crore to acquire an additional minority stake in its step-down subsidiary, Sahyadri Hospitals. This is part of the ongoing process to consolidate ownership, as Manipal Health currently holds 89.98 percent of Sahyadri and aims to complete the remaining acquisition of 9.84 percent by December 1, 2026, valuing that transaction at ₹574.56 crore.
Financial Performance Context for FY26
While preparing for market debut, Manipal Health shared performance indicators for FY26. The company reported a revenue increase of 25.4 percent, reaching Rs 10,335.8 crore from the previous year's Rs 8,242.3 crore.However, the net profit for FY26 was recorded at Rs 916.5 crore, marking a decrease of 15.3 percent compared to the prior year’s consolidated profit of Rs 1,081.7 crore.
Promoter and Institutional Ownership Breakdown
Promoter Dr Ranjan Ramdas Pai collectively holds a substantial 27.68 percent stake in MHE through several entities, including Manipal Global Health Services and MEMG International India. Temasek-backed promoter entities such as Kangto Investments hold 50 percent of the company.Among public shareholders, TPG SG Magazine stands out as the largest investor with a 10.34 percent holding. The issue is being managed by several leading firms, including Kotak Mahindra Capital Company, Goldman Sachs (India) Securities, and JP Morgan India, among others.
