Noida, April 10 The real estate developers' association, Credai, has appealed to the Uttar Pradesh government to intervene in the ongoing shortage of LPG, stating that it is severely impacting construction activities and the livelihoods of workers in the region.
In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on April 8, the Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India, Western UP, pointed out that the disruption in the supply of cooking gas is affecting construction sites and slowing down project execution.
The developers' association stated that domestic LPG cylinders are being illegally sold at construction sites for Rs 4,500-5,000, while refilling of smaller cylinders is only available after a long waiting period for Rs 400-500, which is hindering construction work.
According to estimates by Credai, which has around 250 developer members in the region, approximately 150 real estate projects worth thousands of crores are currently affected due to the supply disruption, including materials and fuel.
These projects are spread across western Uttar Pradesh, including key high-rise hubs such as Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and areas along the Yamuna Expressway, and employ thousands of laborers at these sites.
The association noted that despite a recent announcement of a ceasefire, the situation on the ground has not normalised, and immediate administrative intervention is required to ensure smooth LPG supply and curb black marketing.
Highlighting the sector's importance, Credai stated that the construction industry is the country's second-largest employment generator and is heavily dependent on migrant labor, making the crisis a major concern for workforce availability and project continuity.
Credai Western UP President Dinesh Gupta said that the shortage and black marketing are disrupting the entire construction ecosystem.
"Without concrete steps from authorities, construction workers will be adversely affected. This will affect project costs and timelines, ultimately burdening homebuyers. The crisis is linked to the livelihoods of lakhs of workers," Gupta said.
The association urged the administration to take immediate steps to restore supply and act against illegal practices, expressing hope that the government would take prompt action to provide relief to the sector and workers.
