The strong performance was attributed to a mix of volume growth and higher price realization across the company’s portfolio. Furthermore, operational profitability benefited from supply chain agility and procurement efficiencies.

Operational Updates and Project Milestones

In terms of operational stability and project execution, the management provided several updates:

  • Key Projects: The Dahej project continues to progress toward stabilization and mechanical completion in the second quarter, with customer qualification targeted for Q3. The ramp-up for Phase 2 of the Dahej project is planned for Q4, targeting FY28.
  • Turnaround Completion: A scheduled turnaround at Site 1 was successfully completed during the first half of the financial year.
  • Financial Health: The company's term debt peaked at approximately INR6,100 million, maintaining a healthy net debt to equity ratio of around 0.3x.

Market Dynamics and Segment Strategy

The management highlighted the volatility in the global chemical ecosystem. Structural shifts, capacity restructuring, and realignment were noted across Europe, Japan, and Korea. Logistics disruptions related to the Gulf of Hormuz, the Red Sea, and a typhoon near the South China belt were also mentioned as macro factors impacting operations.

Raw Material Costs: A significant element discussed was the volatility in feedstock prices. The company observed large jumps in raw material costs starting in March and continuing into April. While moderation was seen towards the end of May and June for key materials like acetic acid, the market environment remained challenging. One analyst noted that methanol and acetic acid saw spikes nearing 200% when benchmarked against a March baseline.

Business Segment Strategy:
  • Essentials Business: Management described the Essentials segment as a business requiring intense agility to steer through the economic cycle, emphasizing that its performance must be viewed over the long term. The company noted achieving an EBITDA of close to 11% to 12% in Q1 for this segment, up from low single-digit EBITDA previously recorded.
  • Specialty Business: The specialty vertical is supported by strategic expansion and a robust pipeline, aiming to achieve status as the third largest producer of diketene derivatives globally through expansions.

Dahej Project and Future Guidance

Regarding the Dahej project, it was clarified that Phase 1 had already been capitalized, accounting for approximately 18% of the total capex. An estimated full-year expenditure for all projects, including Dahej, is between INR125 crores and INR150 crores. Incremental depreciation related to Phase 2 commissioning in Dahej is anticipated to be in the range of INR7 crores to INR7.5 crores per quarter starting post-capitalization.

Furthermore, the status of Project Vaayu (Hitachi project) was confirmed, with mechanical completion anticipated in early Q3, allowing for ramp-up and revenue realization beginning in FY28. The company maintained its commitment to leveraging electrochemical fluorination as a technology platform within its specialty business development pipeline.
