L&T Secures Ultra-Mega Framework Agreement with TenneT for 2 GW Offshore Wind Programme

Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) has concluded a Framework Cooperation Agreement (FCA) with TenneT, establishing a partnership to support an ambitious 2 GW offshore wind programme. The agreement involves L&T, in consortium with Hitachi Energy, and is designed to accelerate Europe's transition toward a sustainable and decarbonised clean energy future by supporting the large-scale integration of offshore renewable energy.

The FCA covers six projects and future opportunities within TenneT's 2 GW HVDC programme. The existing projects under the agreement include IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 in the Netherlands. Additionally, the consortium will commence two new initiatives: Nederwiek 3 in the Netherlands and LanWin 5 in Germany.

These combined projects represent a cumulative transmission capacity of 8 GW operating at 525 kV. The successful completion of these projects will enable the transfer of renewable energy generated in the North Sea's Dutch and German sectors to onshore power grids.

L&T is responsible for executing the offshore converter platforms and associated infrastructure within the engineering, procurement, construction and installation scope. Hitachi Energy will contribute its HVDC Light technology, which facilitates efficient power conversion and transmission. The consortium leverages L&T's expertise in offshore engineering and project execution alongside Hitachi Energy's advanced power transmission capabilities to deliver reliable HVDC infrastructure for Europe’s renewable energy goals.

L&T's Offshore Wind business vertical is supported by its multidisciplinary engineering expertise, housed in its engineering centre of excellence in India and Sharjah, UAE. The company maintains a robust supply chain ecosystem and world-class modular fabrication facilities located in Kattupalli, India. These strengths ensure the delivery of complex offshore structures adhering to high standards of safety, quality, and sustainability.

This significant programme further strengthens L&T’s international presence, positioning the company at the forefront of developing sustainable offshore energy infrastructure necessary for a net-zero future.
