JSW Energy Commissions 150 MW Tidong Hydro Project, Boosting Total Installed Capacity to Nearly 13,900 MW

JSW Neo Energy Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited, announced the successful commissioning of the full 150 MW capacity of Tidong Power Generation Private Limited. This run-of-river hydroelectric power plant is located in the Tidong Valley within the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

The project was commissioned ahead of the previously guided timeline of October 2026, highlighting the company's execution capabilities. Tidong Power holds a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd to procure 75 MW of power during the months spanning May to October at a tariff of ₹5.57/KWh.

The commissioning marks Tidong Power as the fourth hydro asset for the company in Himachal Pradesh, further strengthening its standing as India's largest private hydropower player. With this addition, the project is anticipated to be earnings-accretive in FY27, benefiting from its remunerative tariff and the ability to capitalize on the ongoing hydro season. The plant also benefits from operational synergies due to its proximity to the Karcham Wangtoo facility.

Installed Capacity Update

The commissioning of Tidong Power means that JSW Energy's total installed capacity added in Q1 FY27 (to date) stands at approximately 445 MW. This brings the company's overall total installed capacity to nearly 13,900 MW.

The breakdown of the new generation capacity achieved during Q1 FY27 is as follows:

Generation TypeCapacity Added
Hydro150 MW
Wind225 MW
Solar70 MW

JSW Energy maintains a substantial overall generation profile, boasting 32.1 GW of locked-in generation capacity. This total comprises 13.9 GW currently operational and 13.6 GW under construction across thermal, hydro, and renewable segments. The company also maintains a pipeline of 4.6 GW projects.

In terms of storage, the group possesses 29.6 GWh of locked-in energy storage capacity, which includes 26.4 GWh from hydro pumped storage projects and 3.2 GWh from a battery energy storage system.

Strategic Vision for Future Growth

Mr Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, stated that the early commissioning of Tidong reflects the company's depth of execution capabilities and its focus on building a diversified, high-quality generation portfolio. He emphasized that as India's largest private hydropower player, the group views hydro power as critical for grid stability and delivering round-the-clock clean energy.

JSW Energy aims to reach 30 GW in total generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030. Furthermore, the company has set a goal to achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050.

The broader history of JSW Energy shows consistent growth; the company began commercial operations in 2000, starting with two 130 MW thermal power plants at Vijayanagar, Karnataka. It has since steadily increased its power generation capacity from 260 MW to the current 13.9 GW, ensuring diversity across geographical presence, fuel sources, and offtake agreements.

JSWENERGY Stock Price Movement

Today, JSW Energy Limited edged higher to close at ₹559.35 after gaining 1.35%. The stock saw robust activity in the market, with a volume of 2.73 million shares traded as it finished its session today.
