Nasscom issued a strong statement Tuesday, addressing growing concerns within the technology sector following an alleged sexual harassment case at the Tata Consultancy Services’s Nashik facility. The industry body took the unprecedented step of publicly reaffirming its commitment to high governance standards.

Nasscom emphasized that while such incidents are being taken with the utmost seriousness, they are categorically isolated. The industry body strongly refuted the notion that the alleged misconduct points to any systemic failure or widespread issue within the broader Indian IT sector.

The announcement serves as a critical reassurance to stakeholders, clients, and employees alike, asserting that the backbone of Indian technology remains built on fundamental principles of respect, dignity, and safety.

Strengthening Governance and Accountability in Indian IT​

The industry body highlighted that the entire operational model of the Indian IT sector is anchored by strict governance frameworks and clear, unequivocal norms for workplace conduct. Employee safety and well-being, Nasscom stressed, remain non-negotiable priorities for all participating organizations.

Nasscom confirmed that any instance of misconduct or harassment is met with the highest degree of gravity. Organizations are mandated to take swift, decisive, and appropriate disciplinary action in strict adherence to established legal processes.

To proactively manage risks, companies have reportedly strengthened preventive and grievance redressal mechanisms. These mechanisms are supported by defined codes of conduct and rigorous compliance measures, ensuring complaints are handled promptly, fairly, and with sensitivity.

Immediate Actions Following Nashik Allegations​

The statement was issued in direct response to eight employees at the Nashik facility. These employees alleged that they were subjected to both mental and sexual harassment by senior colleagues, further claiming a failure by the human resources department to act on their initial complaints.

Following the allegations, significant disciplinary action has been taken. The report indicates that police have arrested seven individuals, and all accused employees involved in the incident have reportedly been suspended.

Nasscom maintained that sustaining trust within the industry hinges on maintaining safe and accountable workplaces. The industry body reiterated its zero-tolerance policy for any form of inappropriate behaviour, regardless of seniority or position.
