Infosys Foundation Commits Over INR 147 Crore Towards Advanced Mother and Child Centre at PGIMER, Chandigarh
Infosys Foundation has committed over INR 147 crore towards critical medical equipment for the Advanced Mother and Child Centre (AMCC) at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. This initiative aims to significantly strengthen the institute’s maternity and neonatal care facilities, with the center expected to benefit more than 25,000 pregnant women and newborns annually.The AMCC was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, in the presence of various officials including Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon'ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, Shri J.P. Nadda, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, and other senior government personnel and executives.
The Advanced Mother and Child Centre is equipped with a range of specialized services designed to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes. These facilities include triage and emergency services for expectant mothers, labor and delivery units, resuscitation facilities, obstetric intensive care and high dependency units, dedicated neonatal intensive care units, modular operation theatres, a blood bank, a human milk bank, and a kangaroo mother care ward.
Prof Vivek Lal, Director of PGIMER, stated that the dedication of the AMCC to the nation by the Hon'ble Prime Minister and Shri J.P. Nadda is highly appreciated. He noted that this center will play an essential role in expanding access to quality healthcare for mothers and newborns, underscoring the importance of the Ayushman Scheme in providing cutting edge care free of cost to underprivileged patients.
Sunil Kumar Dhareshwar, Trustee of Infosys Foundation, emphasized that the support given to PGIMER aligns with the foundation's commitment to transformative and inclusive healthcare initiatives. He stated, "By providing sophisticated critical care medical equipment to AMCC, we aim to provide enhanced support towards maternal and neonatal care," contributing to the nation’s strides in socio-economic development.
