
Exports Continue to Expand Despite Global Headwinds
India’s goods and services exports have recorded positive growth so far in the current year up to January 21, even as the global economy faces uncertainty. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the resilience of the country’s export performance while addressing an event in Greater Noida.While specific figures were not disclosed, the minister said India’s export momentum remains intact and expressed confidence that sustained efforts will help the country continue setting new records in the coming years.
December Merchandise Trade Performance
India’s merchandise exports rose by 1.87 percent to USD 38.5 billion in December last year. During the same month, imports increased by 8.7 percent to USD 63.55 billion, reflecting higher inbound trade activity.On a cumulative basis, merchandise exports during April to December of the current financial year grew by 2.44 percent to USD 330.29 billion.
Outlook for FY26 Exports
Looking ahead, the Commerce Ministry expects India’s combined goods and services exports to cross USD 850 billion in 2025–26, compared with USD 825 billion in 2024–25. The outlook underscores optimism around India’s export trajectory, supported by continued policy focus and industry participation.The minister made these remarks while speaking at the ICAI World Forum of Accountants, where he reiterated confidence in India’s long-term economic growth and expanding global trade footprint.
