India’s Energy Diversification Strategy Praised by Argentina Envoy, Highlights Lithium Collaboration

India’s Long-Term Energy Strategy Gains Recognition

New Delhi, March 24: Argentina’s Ambassador to India, Mariano Agustin Caucino, has described India’s ongoing efforts to diversify its energy and resource suppliers as a “wise strategy,” noting that the approach was already underway before recent global conflicts disrupted supply chains.

Speaking in New Delhi, Caucino said the Indian government had proactively focused on reducing dependence on limited sources of energy and critical resources, reflecting a strong long-term strategic outlook.

“Even before the last evolution of this conflict, the Indian government has been developing a strategy of diversifying its suppliers in terms of energy and other resources, which I think is wise,” he said.

Strengthening Supply Stability Amid Global Uncertainty

The ambassador emphasized that India’s policy of expanding its supplier base has positioned the country more securely in an increasingly uncertain global environment. He noted that broadening sourcing channels is essential to ensure stability in the availability of energy and key resources.

“Expanding the pool of suppliers is not only practical but also necessary to ensure stability in energy and resource availability,” Caucino added.

India–Argentina Ties Expand Across Strategic Sectors

Highlighting the growing bilateral relationship, Caucino said India and Argentina share a strong and complementary economic partnership. He noted that both countries have been working to elevate ties into a strategic partnership in recent years.

Argentina is already playing a role in supporting India’s food security, and the relationship is now expanding into critical sectors such as energy and minerals.

Lithium Emerges as Key Area of Collaboration

The envoy identified lithium as a major area of cooperation between the two nations. Lithium is a crucial component used in batteries and clean energy technologies, making it strategically important for India’s energy transition.

Caucino pointed out that Argentina holds significant lithium reserves in its northern region, part of the “lithium triangle” shared with Chile and Bolivia.

Investment Opportunities for Indian Companies

The ambassador also highlighted Argentina’s efforts to attract foreign investment, including policy measures and investor guarantees aimed at making the country an appealing destination for Indian firms.

He noted that Indian companies have already made promising investments in Argentina’s lithium sector, indicating the potential for deeper collaboration in the future.
