
India Strengthens Strategic Ties with Sri Lanka as Vice President Arrives in Colombo
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan arrived in Colombo on April 19 as part of a significant two-day bilateral visit to Sri Lanka. His arrival was marked by a traditional Kandyan dance performance, underscoring the warm relations between the two nations. This visit marks a historic first as it represents the first official bilateral visit by an Indian Vice President to Sri Lanka.The high-level engagement is fundamentally aimed at further fortifying the deep-rooted, millennia-old civilizational and people-to-people bonds shared by India and Sri Lanka. The visit is following recent robust high-level exchanges between the respective governments.

The strategic importance of the visit was emphasized by official sources. Randhir Jaiswal, Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, noted that the visit will significantly strengthen the civilizational ties. He stated that it reinforces the strong, enduring people-to-people connection that binds the two nations together.The two-day itinerary includes high-level meetings with key Sri Lankan leaders. The Vice President is scheduled to call on President Anura Kumara Disanayaka. He will also meet with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

The bilateral partnership holds major geopolitical significance for India. Sri Lanka remains an essential and key partner in India’s overarching Vision MAHASAGAR strategy. Furthermore, the partnership is central to India’s established Neighbourhood First Policy.The Vice President’s schedule also includes meetings with other dignitaries and prominent leaders from the Indian diaspora in the country. These structured engagements underscore the comprehensive nature of the relationship. The focus remains on strengthening the overarching mutual trust and cooperation between the two states.
