India’s Electronics Exports Surge 32% in FY25 to $38.58 Billion, Driven by Smartphone Boom

Telecom Equipment Leads Export Growth as India Expands Global Footprint

New Delhi, March 17: India’s electronics hardware exports recorded a sharp rise in FY25, increasing by 32.47 per cent year-on-year to reach $38.58 billion, according to a report released by the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC).

The latest figures mark a significant jump from $29.12 billion in FY24, reflecting strong momentum in the country’s electronics manufacturing and export ecosystem.

Smartphones Dominate Export Basket

Telecom equipment, particularly smartphones, emerged as the primary growth driver during the fiscal year.

Smartphone exports surged to an estimated $24.14 billion in FY25, compared to $15.57 billion in the previous year. This made smartphones the largest contributor to India’s overall electronics hardware exports.

ESC Executive Director Gurmeet Singh described the export momentum as “remarkable,” highlighting the critical role played by telecom equipment in driving overall growth.

United States Tops Export Destinations

The United States remained the leading destination for India’s smartphone exports, accounting for 44 per cent of total shipments.

Other key markets included:
  • United Arab Emirates with 11 per cent share
  • Netherlands at 9 per cent
  • United Kingdom at 6 per cent
  • Italy at 5 per cent
Region-wise, North America emerged as the largest export destination, with shipments valued at $14.70 billion, followed by Europe at $11.45 billion.

Emerging Markets Gain Traction

The report highlighted growing diversification in export markets, supported by initiatives under the Bharat Tech banner.

ESC Chairman Veer Sagar noted that these initiatives are enabling Indian companies to expand into emerging regions such as Africa, Latin America, CIS, ASEAN, and SAARC, while strengthening their presence in established markets like North America and Europe.

Exports to Russia and CIS countries more than tripled to $1.10 billion, indicating rising demand in these regions. Meanwhile, shipments to the Middle East stood at $5.20 billion.

Exports to the Far East, including Korea and Japan, also saw strong growth, rising 48.56 per cent to $1.75 billion.

Tamil Nadu Leads State-Wise Export Performance

Among Indian states, Tamil Nadu led the electronics export landscape with shipments worth $15 billion in FY25.

Other major contributors included:
  • Karnataka with $7.85 billion
  • Uttar Pradesh with $5.30 billion
  • Maharashtra with $3.60 billion
  • Gujarat with $2.80 billion
  • Delhi with $1 billion

Export Growth Expands Beyond Traditional Hubs

The ESC report indicated that India’s electronics manufacturing and export base is no longer limited to traditional clusters. Growth is increasingly distributed across multiple regions, signaling a broader expansion of the country’s production capabilities and export infrastructure.

This widespread growth underscores India’s strengthening position in the global electronics supply chain, particularly in high-demand segments such as smartphones.
