
Commitment to a Just and Lasting Peace
India and the Arab States have reiterated their collective commitment to achieving a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in West Asia in accordance with international law, relevant United Nations resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative. The reaffirmation came during the second India Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in New Delhi on Saturday.External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar participated in the meeting alongside Foreign Ministers of Arab States and the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, underscoring the growing diplomatic engagement between India and the Arab world.
Support for Palestine and Regional Stability
The Delhi Declaration issued after the meeting called for the establishment of a sovereign, independent, and viable State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders, living side by side in peace with Israel. Both sides supported the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and welcomed the outcomes of the 2025 Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit, which concluded with a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.Position on Lebanon and Libya
The declaration reaffirmed support for the Government of Lebanon in restricting the possession of arms exclusively to legitimate security agencies and asserting the authority of the Lebanese State across its territory through national forces. The two sides also called for respect for Lebanon’s territorial integrity, internationally recognised borders, and an end to all violations of its sovereignty.On Libya, the declaration emphasised Libyan ownership and leadership of the political process, reaffirming commitment to the 2015 Libyan Political Agreement and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. Efforts aimed at facilitating presidential and parliamentary elections at the earliest opportunity were welcomed.
Backing for Sudan, Somalia, and Yemen
India and the Arab States reaffirmed steadfast support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Sudan, rejecting any external interference in its internal affairs. Similar support was expressed for Somalia, with a call to respect its unity, territorial integrity, and internationally recognised borders.The declaration also reaffirmed unwavering commitment to the unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Yemen, while condemning any actions that undermine its security or violate its territorial unity.
Expanding India Arab Engagement
