New Delhi, February 16: The High Commissioner of India to Nigeria, Abhishek Singh, has said that the India AI Impact Summit will play a transformative role in reshaping global discussions on artificial intelligence, strengthening bilateral ties with Nigeria, and advancing the interests of Africa and the Global South.
According to a report by Nigeria’s NAN news agency, the envoy emphasized that the summit aims to ensure artificial intelligence evolves as a tool for inclusive development rather than becoming a catalyst for widening global inequality.
AI for Inclusive Development and Global South Representation
Singh noted that the summit would amplify the voices of the Global South in shaping global AI governance frameworks. He highlighted key concerns confronting developing economies, including data sovereignty, employment disruption, and the expanding digital divide. He stated that addressing these structural challenges is critical to ensuring that emerging AI systems benefit countries such as Nigeria and other African nations, instead of deepening existing inequalities.
The summit’s guiding theme, “Sarvajana Hitaya, Sarvajana Sukhaya” translated as “Welfare for all, happiness for all,” reflects the shared developmental aspirations of India, Nigeria, and other African countries. Singh said the philosophy aligns with India’s approach to technology as a public good.
Digital Public Goods and Cost-Effective AI Innovation
Drawing parallels with India’s earlier sharing of digital public goods, Singh said Nigerian developers, startups, and public institutions could leverage similar models to build AI-driven solutions at lower costs. This approach is expected to open new pathways for collaboration in technology and innovation. The summit will also demonstrate practical applications of artificial intelligence across agriculture, healthcare, education, energy, and climate resilience. These focus areas align closely with Nigeria’s development priorities and its digital transformation agenda.
