ICICI Surges on Stellar Q1 Earnings; Analysts Project Up to 32% Rally as Asset Quality Improves

ICICI Bank shares climbed 3% to Rs 1,480 on Monday after the private sector lender unveiled exceptionally strong earnings for the June quarter. The performance was driven by double-digit growth in profit and net interest income (NII), coupled with significant improvements in asset quality and robust loan expansion across key segments.

The results reaffirmed ICICI’s position as a high-quality franchise within the competitive banking sector. Analysts are responding aggressively, with multiple brokerages raising their price targets, setting the stage for substantial future upside.

Analyst Consensus Points to Aggressive Upside

The results prompted strong upgrades and target revisions across several major brokerage firms. Centrum retained a 'Buy' rating, setting an ambitious target price of Rs 1,900, which implies a substantial upside of around 32%. Bernstein upgraded the bank to 'Outperform,' targeting Rs 1,800 (a 27% upside).

JM Financial increased its target price to Rs 1,710, reflecting an expected premium valuation due to superior loan growth and strong asset quality trends.

Strategic Outlook and Future Growth Drivers

Multiple analysts pointed to ICICI Bank's proactive risk management and robust foundations as key drivers for future growth. Centrum highlighted the rapid advances growth (19.6% YoY), driven by healthy business banking and domestic corporate lending.

Dolat Capital maintained a 'Buy' rating with a target of Rs 1,800, noting that FCNR deposits are expected to provide necessary liquidity for continued expansion. The consensus emphasizes that the bank’s focus remains on risk-adjusted returns over merely gaining market share.
