Global Innovation Surge: India and France Forge Strategic ATL Bridge to Empower School Innovators

Landmark Initiative Unveils Cross-Border Innovation Ecosystem

Guided by a shared commitment from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Emmanuel Macron, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, and La Fondation Dassault Systèmes have established the India-France ATL Bridge. This landmark initiative aims to deepen innovation-led cooperation between both nations by connecting young innovators across their respective countries.

The Letter of Intent (LoI) formalizing this partnership was exchanged in Nice, France, on the sidelines of Bharat Innovates 2026. The agreement establishes the first School Innovation Lab in France, directly inspired by India’s established Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) framework. This provides a structured platform for students to collaborate and strengthen linkages between their respective innovation ecosystems.

Fostering Collaborative Future through Knowledge Exchange

The India-France ATL Bridge is set to serve as a vital strategic platform for fostering cross-border innovation programmes and entrepreneurial exchanges. The initiative will enable young innovators from both countries to co-create solutions to real world challenges through joint activities and capacity building.

This collaboration reflects the shared commitment during the India-France Year of Innovation 2026. It represents a significant step toward expanding international cooperation in school level innovation, promoting meaningful exchanges among students and educators. The initiative is rooted in the civilizational philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, emphasizing that knowledge and progress are most meaningful when shared globally.

Industry Leaders Praise Shared Vision for Youth Empowerment

Deepak Bagla, Mission Director of AIM, highlighted how this milestone reflects global confidence in India’s innovation journey. He stated that the establishment of the School Innovation Lab in France is more than a new learning space; it represents sharing a vision—that every young person must have the opportunity to innovate and lead.

Marie-Pierre Aulas, Managing Director of La Fondation Dassault Systèmes, emphasized education as the most powerful lever for building a sustainable future. She stressed that ATL is a unique initiative dedicated to nurturing creativity and entrepreneurial skills from an early age through experiential learning. The partnership follows seven years of commitment by the Foundation to fostering this innovation mindset in India and France.

AIM's Role in Building India's Innovation Landscape

Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) was launched by Prime Minister Modi in 2016 with the vision of cultivating a widespread culture of innovation, contributing directly to the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047. Since its inception, AIM has become a flagship national initiative promoting innovation ecosystems across schools, industry, and startups.

The sheer scale of AIM's success underscores the significance of this global partnership. Over the past decade, more than 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs have been established throughout India. These labs have empowered over 11 million students with crucial skills in design thinking, robotics, artificial intelligence, and entrepreneurship.

The ATL Bridge: A Symbol of Global Partnership

The success of AIM has cemented India's position as a leader in building vast innovation ecosystems. By linking the proven ATL methodology to France’s educational landscape, the initiative acts as a powerful symbol of friendship and shared belief. It embodies the vision that the future of India—and by extension, global development—is dependent on the dedication and innovation of its youth.
