Fermenta Biotech Receives FSSAI Approval for Plant-Source Vitamin D3 (VITADEE Green®)

Fermenta Biotech Limited has secured Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) approval for its Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) - Plant Source, known as VITADEE Green®. This approval enables the ingredient to be used in Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, and Food Products across India.

The authorization addresses a critical gap in nutritional care within the country. The development allows Indian food and supplement manufacturers to utilize VITADEE Green® in fortified staple foods, beverages, dietary supplements, and nutraceuticals.

Prashant Nagre, Managing Director at Fermenta, stated that Vitamin D deficiency remains a significant public health concern in India, and the demand for sustainable nutrition is rapidly increasing. The FSSAI approval enables the company to introduce VITADEE Green® directly to Indian food fortification and nutraceutical manufacturers, assisting in bridging the nutritional gap for the country's large population.

Nagre emphasized that Fermenta is among the first Indian companies to develop and patent a process for sustainable, scalable, and affordable plant-source Vitamin D3. As such, VITADEE Green® supports the 'Make in India' initiative by offering a domestic, self-reliant option for local formulators. He noted that crucially, VITADEE Green® provides Indian formulators with the superior D3 form within a fully plant-sourced format, unlike alternatives that often required settling for Vitamin D2.

The availability of this domestically manufactured and regulatory-cleared product is particularly significant for India's vegetarian consumers who previously had limited access to a plant-source Vitamin D3 option. This move also supports the national objective of tackling Vitamin D deficiency through food fortification, an area where regulators increasingly favor plant-based ingredients.

Fermenta Biotech Limited specializes in providing science-validated nutritional ingredients and green chemistry solutions across various sectors, including pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements, food and beverage, veterinary, and animal nutrition industries. The company operates state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Kullu (Himachal Pradesh), Dahej (Gujarat), and Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh).
