Essar Shipping Announces Quarterly Financial Results and Approves Tug Asset Sale​

Essar Shipping Limited has released its unaudited financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, and announced that its Board of Directors approved the sale of a key asset. The results reveal continued operating losses at both the standalone and consolidated levels, against a backdrop of significant accumulated deficits.

The Company’s Board of Directors reviewed and approved the Un-Audited Financial Results (Standalone and Consolidated) for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Additionally, based on the Audit Committee's recommendation and subject to shareholder approval, the Board greenlit the sale of Essar Tug III.

Manohar Chowdhry & Associates issued a Limited Review Report on the Standalone Unaudited Financial Results. The company noted that it is incurring operating losses since previous years. Accumulated losses stood at 75972.55 crore against share capital and reserves totaling 5218.23 crore as of June 30, 2026.

A review finding highlighted the material uncertainty related to the Company's ability to continue as a going concern. Despite these conditions, the management noted that current assets exceeded current liabilities by 8.09 crore following measures taken to improve liquidity and secure comfort letters from Group Companies confirming deferment of accrued interest payments for at least two years.

The standalone results showed the company generating Total income from operations amounting to 0.31 crore, against total expenses of 5.75 crore. The Company recorded an exceptional income of 0.93 crore in this period, including reversal of impairment on a loan given to a subsidiary.

Consolidated Financial Results​

The consolidated results also reflect a struggle with profitability, showing Total income from operations at 0.31 crore against total expenses of 27.92 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The Group recognized an Exceptional Income of 258.02 crore, primarily from reversal of impairment on receivables in one foreign subsidiary company.

The consolidated results were prepared on a Going Concern basis, noting that accumulated losses stand at approximately Rs 4816.25 crore against share capital and reserves of approximately Rs 2975.72 crore as at June 30, 2026. Similar to the standalone reports, management indicated ongoing efforts were underway to mitigate financial mismatch between current assets and liabilities.

The results also noted that the company has received a notice from the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) seeking submission of certain information and documents, a matter which management stated it is fully complying with. The financial statements are subject to review by Chartered Accountants Manohar Chowdhry & Associates.

Essar Shipping Limited saw its stock edges up on Wednesday, closing at ₹19.57 after gaining 0.15% from previous levels. The equity finished the day with a traded volume of 117,294 shares.
