EIM Partners with HPCL to Deploy Charging and Battery Swapping Hubs Across India

Energy In Motion Limited (EIM) has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to establish and operate fast charging and battery swapping infrastructure designed specifically for heavy commercial vehicles across HPCL's nationwide retail network. This collaboration aims to address the needs of electric vehicle operators by ensuring reliable availability along key freight corridors in India.

HPCL operates a vast network of over 25,000 retail outlets situated on major highways and expressways throughout the country. Under the agreement, EIM will deploy charging and battery swapping facilities at these selected HPCL sites in a phased rollout plan.

The partnership is structured to leverage the distinct strengths of both organizations. EIM manages the battery inventory and the swap-and-charge hardware, while HPCL contributes the necessary space, utilities, and existing amenities at its retail locations. This division facilitates rapid and efficient rollout.

Focus on Reliable Long-Haul Solutions

The initiative directly addresses long distance travel concerns for electric vehicle operators by providing a dual service of charging and battery swapping. Battery swapping allows drivers to exchange a depleted battery for a charged one in approximately seven minutes, which significantly reduces operational downtime and improves daily utilization and earnings for fleet operators moving goods over long distances.

EIM plans to concentrate the establishment of swap-and-charge hubs along critical freight corridors, including Mumbai-Pune, Delhi-Jaipur, and Chennai-Bangalore. This expansion is projected to take between 18 to 24 months before progressively increasing in scale. The charging stations will be fully integrated with EIM's technology platform, enabling real time monitoring, digital payments, and tracking of availability.

HPCL outlets contribute a proven infrastructure base—offering prominent highway or urban locations, along with existing power connectivity, forecourt space, safety systems, and round the clock staffing, all essential elements for dependable public charging access.

Operational Scale and Future Targets

EIM is committed to building an electric heavy commercial vehicle ecosystem nationwide, which includes megawatt scale charging and swapping stations. The company launched its first electric heavy vehicle, the Ashwa 55 ton e-tractor, on August 1, 2025.

Currently, EIM has commissioned six heavy duty swap stations located in the Delhi NCR region and the JNPA port area. These existing facilities boast a daily capacity of 840 battery swaps. Looking ahead, EIM is targeting to have 40 operational heavy commercial vehicle swap cum charging stations by the end of March 2027.

Commenting on the significance of the partnership, Mr. Narendra Murkumbi, Managing Director of EIM, stated that working with HPCL ensures that charging and swapping infrastructure is placed exactly where drivers routinely stop—at sites equipped with power, space, amenities, safety systems, and staff on duty. He added that combining EIM's battery and fleet expertise with HPCL's nationwide retail network enables the creation of dependable swap and charge hubs along India's main freight corridors at the necessary pace for energy transition.

Energy In Motion Limited (EIM) is an associate company of Ravindra Energy Limited, which focuses on integrated electric mobility solutions for long haul freight transportation.
