Dr. Vijay Namdeorao Zade, a seasoned civil servant and accomplished administrator, has been nominated by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, to serve as a Part-Time Official Director on the Board of Directors of Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE).

The nomination follows the decision by the Ministry of Defence, which appointed Dr. Zade, Joint Secretary (NS), to the position. As part of this appointment, GRSE confirmed that Dr. Zade is not debarred from holding the office of Director by any Statutory Authority.

Dr. Vijay N. Zade brings extensive administrative and technical expertise to the role. He is an IAS officer from the 2002 batch of the Punjab cadre. His qualifications include a Doctorate in Horticulture (Post Harvest Technology) from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, a Masters in Business Administration from Sikkim Manipal University, Gangtok, and an MSc in Public Management and Governance from London School of Economics & Political Science, London.

Before his current role, Dr. Zade served as Junior Scientist at NRCG, Pune, and worked within the Indian Audit and Accounts Service. His professional history spans various capacities across state governments and Union territories. He held senior roles in Punjab Government departments such as Finance, Housing and Urban Development, Health and Family Welfare, Mining, and Governance Reforms. Furthermore, he served in the government of Maharashtra and in various Secretary roles in Chandigarh, covering areas like Finance, Engineering, Estate, Labour, Excise and Taxation, Urban Planning, and Industry. He also served as a Managing Director and on the Board of State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

In his current capacity at the Ministry of Defence, Dr. Zade has been serving as Joint Secretary (Naval Systems) in the Department of Defence Production (DDP) since May 2026. In this position, he oversees financial, administrative, and operational matters related to Defence Public Sector Undertaking Shipyards. He is specifically responsible for policy matters and the indigenisation of technologies within the sector.

Beyond domestic operations, Dr. Zade is also involved in managing international cooperation with SAARC, ASEAN, and East Asian countries to promote defence industrial collaboration. The company confirmed that he holds no equity shares in GRSE and has no inter-se relationship with other Directors on the Board.
