New Delhi, March 27 – Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday announced the establishment of six new Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in Manipur following a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen in the national capital.

ICAR to Set Up New KVKs​

Acting on the state’s request, the minister directed the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to establish the new KVKs to strengthen agricultural extension services and support farmers in the region, according to an official statement.

Proposal for Tissue Culture Lab Encouraged​

Chouhan also urged the Manipur government to submit a proposal for setting up a Tissue Culture Laboratory, aimed at enhancing advanced agricultural practices and improving crop productivity in the state.

Boost to Rural Development Initiatives​

During the meeting, Kipgen thanked the Union Minister for extending the timeline of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-I, which is expected to further improve rural connectivity and support agricultural growth.

Strengthening Agricultural Infrastructure in Manipur​

The establishment of new KVKs and proposed infrastructure development is expected to:
  • Improve farmer training and knowledge transfer
  • Promote modern farming techniques
  • Enhance agricultural productivity in the state
