The Chhattisgarh government has simultaneously ordered its own inquiry into the accident.The state government appointed the Bilaspur Divisional Commissioner to spearhead the investigation. This dual-pronged approach signals the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the industrial mishap.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep grief over the incident, calling it extremely tragic and painful. He paid tribute to the deceased workers while also conveying his condolences to the bereaved families. Understanding the Industrial Accident and Casualties
The accident originated in Boiler Unit-1 of the power plant. Preliminary reports suggest the incident stemmed from a technical fault involving a water supply pipe connected to a steam pipeline.The fatality count rose to 20 workers, while 15 other workers are currently undergoing treatment for injuries at various hospitals.
The state government's inquiry order is designed to comprehensively examine several key areas. It must determine exactly when and how the accident occurred, establish the underlying causes and circumstances, and recommend measures to prevent any recurrence in the future. The inquiry officer has been mandated to complete this probe and submit a final report to the state government within 30 days.
Fuel Overload Identified as Primary Cause
The technical findings point to specific mechanical failures leading up to the explosion. A preliminary technical report submitted by the Chief Boiler Inspector initially indicated excessive fuel accumulation inside the furnace. This accumulation reportedly led to pressure build-up and subsequently caused damage to connected pipelines.These initial technical assessments were corroborated by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Sakti. The FSL identified fuel overload as the primary cause behind the catastrophic industrial accident.
