Delegates from BRICS Member and Partner Countries concluded an introductory visit to Indore, Madhya Pradesh, ahead of the 16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers' Meeting. The visit, hosted by the Indore Smart City Project and the Indore Municipal Corporation, underscores India's commitment to fostering global agricultural resilience and sustainable development among partner nations.

The ministerial meeting is scheduled for June 12-13, 2026, in Indore. This high-level gathering will bring together all Member and Partner Countries to deliberate on critical advancements required in the spheres of food security and sustainable farming practices. Prior to the ministerial session, Deputy Representatives are slated to convene from June 9 to 11 for focused discussions on current challenges and opportunities facing worldwide agriculture.

Delegates Experience Indore's Culture Ahead of BRICS Summit​

Representatives hailing from Brazil, South Africa, Ethiopia, and other participating nations were hosted in Indore. The delegates experienced the city's vibrant urban environment and rich cultural heritage. They visited the iconic 56 Dukan food hub, gaining a firsthand perspective on India's culinary traditions and culture of hospitality.

The visit serves not only as a pleasant prelude but also highlights the commitment to strengthening practical cooperation among BRICS nations. The preparatory meetings provide crucial groundwork for effective collaborative action when global agricultural stability is at stake.

Key Agenda Items for Enhancing Agricultural Cooperation​

The upcoming ministerial discussions are set to cover an extensive range of complex issues vital for future food security. Discussions will concentrate on agricultural cooperation, market opportunities, value chains, and the advancement of innovation.

Significant focus areas include climate-resilient agriculture, regenerative farming, soil health management, and sustainable resource management. The agenda also places special emphasis on elevating the role of youth, women, and smallholder farmers in achieving broader food security goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

India's Role in Advancing Food Security Dialogue​

India is committed to sustained cooperative dialogue among BRICS nations during its chairmanship, which spans from January 1 to December 31, 2026. Four sessions of the Agriculture Working Group (AWG) have successfully been conducted under India's Chairship thus far.

These prior deliberations have advanced discussions significantly across food security, sustainable agriculture, and innovation development. Furthermore, technical dialogues facilitated by India’s chairship have covered topics such as fisheries and aquaculture, reducing food loss and waste, and the adoption of advanced livestock technologies.

The 16th BRICS Agriculture Ministers' Meeting is expected to markedly strengthen collaboration among all BRICS countries. The objective remains building inclusive, sustainable, and resilient agricultural and food systems capable of meeting future global demands.
