Blackstone Strengthens APAC Infrastructure Foothold with Strategic India Leadership Appointment

Global private equity powerhouse Blackstone has announced a significant expansion of its regional capabilities with the launch of a dedicated infrastructure platform in the Asia-Pacific region.

The firm confirmed on July 16 that Ami Momaya has joined the company as Managing Director and Head of Infrastructure for India. This appointment serves as a cornerstone for the firm's commitment to scaling its presence across high-growth Asian markets.

This move represents the first dedicated infrastructure hire for Blackstone in the APAC region. It builds upon more than two decades of investment experience and a proven track record within various businesses across Asia.

Strategic Expansion into India's Growth Markets

The expansion comes at a pivotal moment as infrastructure remains a primary strategic priority for the global firm. Management views the fast-growing markets across the APAC region as containing significant opportunities for long-term capital deployment.

By establishing a dedicated platform in the region, Blackstone aims to leverage its global scale and expertise. The objective is to invest in the critical infrastructure that supports economic growth across the continent.

The move is specifically targeted at capitalizing on India's status as one of the most compelling infrastructure markets globally. Growth in this sector is being fueled by strong economic momentum, accelerating digitalization, and continued policy support from the government.

High-Caliber Leadership to Drive Regional Platform

Ami Momaya brings a wealth of deep local expertise and an extensive background in infrastructure investing to her new role. She joins the firm with a history of holding senior investment roles at prominent financial institutions.

Momaya previously served as a Managing Director at KKR India. Her experience also includes significant tenures at the National Infrastructure Investment Fund (NIIF) and Morgan Stanley Investment Management.

During her 17-year tenure at Morgan Stanley, she played a key role in establishing the firm's Indian infrastructure business. Her appointment is expected to help bridge the gap between global investment platforms and local execution capabilities.

Massive Scale and Key Investment Momentum

The scale of Blackstone's ambitions is underscored by its current Infrastructure platform, which boasts $84 billion in assets under management. The firm has already demonstrated significant momentum across the APAC region through strategic high-profile investments.

A key example of this growth is the company's involvement with AirTrunk, a leading data center platform. This continued expansion highlights Blackstone’s intent to remain a dominant force in both traditional and digital infrastructure sectors.
