Bitcoin Plunges Below $63K on Weak Coinbase Earnings and Shifting Market Sentiment

Bitcoin has slipped beneath the $63,000 mark, hitting a two week low as the cryptocurrency sector grapples with fading optimism. The market is currently trading at $62,972, reflecting broad concerns stemming from weaker-than-expected earnings reports from Coinbase Global Inc. and Strategy Inc.

The global crypto market capitalization has edged down 1.44%, settling at $2.16 trillion, according to CoinMarketCap data. In the last 24 hours, Bitcoin registered a drop of 2.04%, while Ethereum also saw a decline of 2.02% to trade near $1,865.

Crypto Market Plummets as Coinbase Faces Losses

The downturn is heavily influenced by corporate sector health and macro concerns. Analysts note that speculative investors are beginning to pull back from the market amid this volatility. This sentiment was triggered partly by the report detailing that Coinbase Global experienced its third consecutive quarterly loss.

The cryptocurrency market has been increasingly sensitive to global liquidity conditions and trends within the technology sector. This dynamic makes August a critical month, potentially determining Bitcoin's next major directional move, according to derivatives research analysts.

Institutional Concerns Drive Investor Caution

Piyush Walke of Delta Exchange pointed out that fading optimism surrounding U.S. crypto legislation is weighing heavily on sentiment. Furthermore, investors have been pulling money from spot exchange-traded funds, compounding the pressure on major cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin, the world’s largest cryptocurrency, has consequently lost over 27% of its value so far in 2026.

Shares of Coinbase, which are often closely tied to the crypto cycle, have seen a nearly 28% decline, mirroring the broader market's downward trend. Experts also noted that expectations regarding potential interest rate cuts by the U.S. Federal Reserve were beginning to fade among investors.

Altcoins Diverge Amid Broader Market Uncertainty

While Bitcoin corrects, the performance across major altcoins remains highly mixed. XRP, Solana, Tron, and Hyperliquid saw significant corrections of up to 9.76%. Conversely, BNB, Dogecoin, and Cardano managed rallies of up to 4.58%, demonstrating diversification in market movements.

Nischal Shetty, Founder of WazirX, noted that markets remain cautious as investors try to balance improving geopolitical conditions with the uncertainty surrounding U.S. Federal Reserve policy outlook. Institutional flows were mixed, citing Bitcoin ETF outflows as a sign of short-term caution.

Analysts Observe Mixed Sentiment and Price Correction

Harish Vatnani, Head of Trade at ZebPay, observed that Bitcoin had initially rallied to $66,000 earlier in the week. However, it failed to sustain those gains, leading to profit booking pressures that pushed the price back toward the current $63,000 level. This highlights a continued state of mixed sentiment amidst ongoing global macroeconomic and geopolitical developments.
