Air India and Air India Express Schedule 80 Flights to West Asia Amid US-Israel Iran Conflict; IndiGo Introduces Fuel Surcharge

Air India Group Continues West Asia Operations with Scheduled and Non Scheduled Flights

New Delhi, March 14: Air India and Air India Express are set to operate a total of 80 scheduled and non scheduled flights to and from the West Asia region on Saturday as the US-Israel and Iran conflict continues to impact the region.

The airline group confirmed that both carriers will continue their scheduled services to key destinations including Jeddah and Muscat on March 14.

According to the airline, a total of 10 flights will operate to and from Jeddah, while Air India Express will run eight scheduled flights to and from Muscat.

Detailed Flight Operations to Jeddah and Muscat

Air India will operate one round trip flight from Delhi and two round trips from Mumbai to Jeddah.

Air India Express will also operate flights connecting Kozhikode and Mangaluru with Jeddah, with one flight each operating to and from the destination.

For Muscat services, Air India Express will operate scheduled round trip flights from Delhi, Kochi, Kozhikode, and Mumbai.

Additional Non Scheduled Flights to UAE and Saudi Arabia

Apart from the scheduled operations, Air India and Air India Express plan to operate a total of 62 non scheduled flights to and from the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

The airline said these flights will operate subject to the availability of slots and other prevailing operational conditions at the departure stations.

“These flights are being operated with the requisite permissions from the relevant Indian and local regulatory authorities,” the airline said in a statement.

The Air India group added that it is also exploring opportunities to run additional ad hoc flights to and from destinations across West Asia.

IndiGo Introduces Fuel Surcharge Amid Rising Jet Fuel Costs

In a separate development, IndiGo announced that it will introduce a fuel surcharge on both domestic and international tickets starting March 14.

The airline said the surcharge will range between Rs 425 and Rs 2,300 depending on the route, covering both domestic and international flights.

The move comes as airlines face rising operating costs due to a sharp increase in aviation turbine fuel prices linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Air India Also Implements Fuel Surcharge on Flights

Earlier, Air India and Air India Express had also announced the introduction of a fuel surcharge on flight tickets.

The airline group stated that a surcharge of Rs 399 per ticket on domestic flights came into effect from March 12. The same charge also applies to flights to destinations within the South Asian region.

For international routes, the surcharge varies based on destination. Flights to West Asia will carry an additional charge of $10 per ticket.

Passengers travelling to Africa will see surcharges ranging from $30 to $90, while services to Southeast Asia will have an additional charge between $20 and $60 depending on the route.
