India to Take Development-Oriented Stance at WTO MC14 in Cameroon​

New Delhi, March 25, 2026 – India announced that it will adopt a constructive, balanced, and development-oriented approach at the 14th Ministerial Conference (MC14) of the World Trade Organization (WTO), scheduled from March 26–29 in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The Indian delegation will be led by Piyush Goyal, along with senior officials, technical experts, and representatives from various ministries.

Key discussion areas include:
  • WTO reform and strengthening the multilateral trading system
  • E-commerce work program and moratorium
  • Investment facilitation for development (IFD)
  • Fisheries subsidies
  • Agriculture and development-related issues
The government emphasized that India’s engagement will support meaningful WTO reforms while keeping development concerns at its core, particularly protecting food security and safeguarding the livelihoods of small farmers and fishers.

On fisheries subsidies, India is expected to advocate a balanced approach that ensures sustainability while protecting small-scale fishers, and calls for greater responsibility from countries engaged in large-scale distant water fishing.

Regarding e-commerce, India highlighted the rapidly evolving digital economy and stressed the need for policy spacefor developing countries to harness emerging technologies effectively.

The ministry also reaffirmed that India’s free trade agreements (FTAs) remain aligned with WTO principles and reflect its commitment to a rules-based, fair, and inclusive trading system grounded in non-discrimination principles as enshrined in the Marrakesh Agreement.
