Wockhardt Limited has announced the launch of the Wockhardt Antibiotic Academy, a dedicated scientific initiative aimed at fostering patient-centric dialogue and tackling the growing crisis of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) across India.

The initiative was launched recognizing AMR as one of the most critical threats to global public healthcare since the discovery of penicillin. The academy is designed as an open scientific learning platform accessible to the registered medical fraternity nationwide, focusing on facilitating continuous medical education through knowledge exchange and sharing real-world clinical experience among healthcare professionals.

Addressing the National Healthcare Threat​

The need for such a specialized platform was underscored by alarming statistics regarding drug-resistant infections in India. It is estimated that around 10 lakh patients die annually in India due to multi-drug-resistant infections, a figure stated to be more than four times the number of Indian lives lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Habil Khorakiwala, Founder Chairman at Wockhardt, emphasized the dual necessity of both new antibiotic development and scientific dialogue. He stated that "It is essential to use the right antibiotic for the right patient at the right time," adding that the Academy aims to promote evidence-based solutions that enable clinicians to save patients' lives.
