Tehran Criticises Washington’s Oil Policy Shift
Dubai, March 14: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of contradicting its earlier stance on Russian oil, claiming that Washington is now encouraging global purchases of Russian crude despite previously pressuring India to halt such imports.In a post on social media platform X on Friday, Araghchi said the US had spent months pushing India to stop buying oil from Russia. According to him, the situation changed rapidly following the escalation of hostilities involving Iran.
“The US spent months trying to pressure India into ending its oil imports from Russia,” Araghchi wrote. “After two weeks of war with Iran, the White House is now appealing to the world including India to buy Russian crude.”
US Issues Temporary Waiver for Russian Oil Purchases
His remarks came after the United States issued a 30 day waiver on March 5 that allows India to continue purchasing Russian oil. The waiver followed earlier sanctions imposed in connection with the conflict in Ukraine.The move has drawn criticism from Iranian officials, who view it as a reversal of Washington’s earlier efforts to curb global purchases of Russian energy.
Iran Criticises Europe Over West Asia Conflict
Araghchi also criticised European countries for their position on the conflict in West Asia.
