Tolins' Subsidiary Terra Rubber Breaks Ground on Reclaim Rubber Manufacturing Facility in Kerala
Kerala, August 24, 2026: Tolins Tyres Limited, a prominent player in the tyre and treads industry, has seen a significant step in its commitment to sustainable manufacturing. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Terra Rubber Private Limited, has commenced the construction of a new Reclaim Rubber manufacturing facility in Palakkad, Kerala. This groundbreaking ceremony marks a strategic milestone for the Tolins Group, advancing its backward integration, raw-material efficiency, and move toward circular manufacturing within the rubber value chain.
The new facility is designed to convert scrap tyres and other rubber waste, including rubber compound waste. Through a controlled devulcanisation process, the facility will recover usable rubber, converting it into Reclaimed Rubber. This recovered material can then be incorporated into various rubber compounds as a substitute for a portion of virgin rubber, depending on product specifications.
Creating Value from Waste and EPR Compliance
The establishment of the Terra Rubber facility allows the Tolins Group to participate upstream in the rubber value chain by transforming end-of-life tyres and rubber waste into a value-added raw material. This initiative optimizes the raw-material mix, improves material efficiency, and reduces reliance on virgin resources.Furthermore, the facility presents a crucial revenue opportunity through India's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework for waste tyres. Registered recyclers, such as Terra Rubber, have the potential to generate and transfer EPR certificates to tyre producers against eligible quantities of waste tyres recycled.
This gives the facility a dual value proposition: it recovers a valuable raw material from waste while creating an additional commercial avenue through the EPR ecosystem.
Dr. KV Tolin, Promoter, Chairman, and Managing Director of Tolins Tyres, stated that the groundbreaking represents an important step toward building a more integrated and sustainable rubber ecosystem. He added that by combining the sale of Reclaimed Rubber with the potential generation and transfer of EPR certificates, Terra Rubber holds the capacity to create multiple avenues of value from the recycling of waste tyres, bringing together sustainability, resource efficiency, and commercial value creation.
