The transition toward electric mobility in India is accelerating rapidly. To support this ambitious national goal, the Technology Development Board (TDB), operating under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), has provided crucial financial assistance to M/s RoadGrid India Private Limited based in Indore. This funding is earmarked for a key project: setting up the manufacturing and assembly facility for a universal EV charger designed entirely within India.

The initiative aims to establish robust, indigenous manufacturing capabilities for next-generation charging hardware. By doing so, RoadGrid seeks to solidify India's domestic charging infrastructure ecosystem. The move strongly aligns with the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and sustainable transportation goals.

Engineering the Universal EV Charging Solution​

The project centers on establishing a state-of-the-art facility for the commercial production of universal EV chargers. These chargers are specifically designed to address fragmentation in the market, serving multiple vehicle categories through a single integrated platform. This includes electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, and commercial EVs.

RoadGrid has successfully developed a patented Universal EV Charger. The device integrates advanced capabilities such as a 140 kW dual DC gun (supporting both CCS2 + Type 6 standards) alongside AC charging functionality. This ensures seamless and comprehensive charging support for a wide array of electric mobility vehicles.

The manufacturing scope is extensive, covering the entire value chain. RoadGrid’s facility will encompass the production of power electronics, thermal management systems, embedded software, communication modules, metering systems, control hardware fabrication, quality testing, and final system integration.

Strategic Impact on India's EV Ecosystem​

This project holds significant strategic importance for India's automotive future. It is set to substantially boost domestic manufacturing capacity for advanced charging equipment within the country. By creating a localized supply chain, the initiative actively promotes import substitution in critical power electronics components.
