Tata Consumer Shares Surge on Q1 Earnings Beat; Analysts Weigh Target Prices Amid Premiumization Drive

Strong Q1 Performance Drives Tata Consumer Products Stock Rally

Tata Consumer Products (TCP) stock is set to remain a key focus for investors following the company's release of strong Q1 earnings results. The consistent demonstration of profitability and operational efficiency has boosted investor sentiment towards the consumer staples giant.

The company reported that its net profit increased significantly by 27.8% year-on-year, reaching ₹427 crore. Revenue also saw healthy growth, rising 11.9% to reach ₹5,348.8 crore. These figures underscore the company's robust market positioning and operational strength.

Margin Expansion and Operating Efficiency Gains

The profitability metrics revealed a substantial improvement in operating performance at TCP. EBITDA grew by 19.9%, climbing to ₹724 crore. This growth helped expand the EBITDA margin, which stood at 13.5% compared to 12.7% recorded a year ago. Such expansion points towards successful cost management and optimized business execution.

Analyst Divergence Highlights Stock's Future Trajectory

Following the impressive results, market analysts offered varying perspectives on the stock's future trajectory. Elara Capital maintained its 'Accumulate' rating but adjusted its target price downwards to ₹1,290 from the previous ₹1,345. This suggests a nuanced view despite the company's strong quarter.

Elara Capital largely retained its revenue estimates but lowered forecasts for FY27E and FY28E EBITDA margins to 14.4% and 14.7%, respectively. The firm cited potential headwinds such as rising advertising spends and the risk of elevated tea prices when making these adjustments.

Brokerage Firms Forecast Growth Through Premiumization

Motilal Oswal provided a more bullish outlook, reiterating a 'buy' rating on TCP. They set a target price at ₹1,500 per share, anticipating continued strength in the company’s growth momentum.

The brokerage firm highlighted several key drivers for this expected acceleration. These include improving go-to-market (GTM) execution and rising penetration of e-commerce channels. Furthermore, premium product launches and the scaling up of high-growth businesses like Tata Sampann and RTD Beverages were cited as critical positives.

Elara Capital Refines Estimates on Margin and Valuation

Elara Capital also made specific refinements to its estimates regarding profitability and valuation metrics. The firm cut both FY27E EPS by 4.2% and FY28E EPS by 2.8%. This adjustment comes amidst the calculation of a revised target price, which is now based on a 54x Mar FY28E P/E multiple compared to the previous 55x multiple.

The brokerage firm also noted that it continues to value the Starbucks joint venture at ₹54 per share, providing insight into the company's international collaborations and growth avenues.
